...and we're back!

In the effort of saving money and generally making things simpler, I'm back to blogger. Hosting was $4/month, but that four dollars is just as good to Starbucks me as is is to Godaddy.com. Perhaps the extra dough will open the floodgates and I'll post, like ever. Or not, I've already been this route.

iPhone service plans announced

The service plans for that cell phone I don't want were released today. They start with a very reasonable $59.99 plan with an unlimited data plan and 450 minutes. I'm so disappointed, I was expecting a $100 plan minimum to keep me from wanting it.

I was all excited about Ratatouille, but now I'm not sure. Damn you, Apple!

June 29

This Friday is a busy day for two different companies.

It's the day the much ballyhooed and even more over-hyped iPhone. I'm a pretty big Apple fanboy but even I'm sick of all the iPhone buzz, it's absurd. It's all over the Mac-centric interwebs, like all over. I'm so sick of the anticipation and hype; you'd think it was Christmas for Pete's sake!

The other big release this week is the newest Pixar movie, Ratatouille. This one is pretty hyped up, but it's the eighth release from Pixar and it seems like some people are spoiling for a stinker. Seven previous releases, seven hit movies. They're on top and what do we do to whoever's on top? Anyone... anyone? That's right-we hand out the beatdown!

Which one are you most excited for or are neither of them even on your radar? I'm looking forward to Ratatouille myself. The iPhone looks cool as Antartica, but it's like ten times the phone I need and it will be scarcer than hens teeth Nintendo Wiis. Knowing myself quite well, I wisely locked myself into a phone contract last January after the iPhone was announced. I entirely capable of convincing myself I absolutely must have an iPhone, when I totally don't need it. Now I don't have that problem or I can't do a thing about it anyway and really, where in Maine would I get one? The whole state is probably getting like five. They probably will be burning up ebay's servers next week.

Hope the movie is half as good as they iPhone is supposed to be.

Seven Things

The Holmes tagged me a while ago with the seven things meme. Procrastinator that I am, I've shirked my blogging responsibilities. It's a lovely day here, I should be outside enjoying the weather, but the guilt is getting too much to bear. I can deal with it actually, but ignoring a tag is rude blogging, I'm sure. If I looked I'd probably find a book about blogging etiquette on Amazon, not that I'd care.

Anyhow, e.g. irregardless, the meme was of the seven things, so with reckless abandon without further adieu, here goes.

1. I'm left-handed, not that that's a bad thing. I remember the day in kindergarten when we began to learn to write. The teacher asked 'which hand do you use?' and pretty arbitrarily I said 'this one' meaning my left hand. Life decision made. No, I don't do everything lefty, it's a right-handed world, here's the short list: Writing-left, mouse-right, scissors-right, phone-right... Pretty much I only write goofy.

2. I'm one of those iPod Halo Effect switchers. I love music and when the iPod was released, I knew I had to have one, except iPod was Mac only at that point and I was PC only. Fast forward two years-iTunes 4.1 comes out for Windows, I was downloading it that morning-on my work machine. After a crushingly disappointing iPod-free Christmas, I bought one for myself and I've been a mac fanboy every since.

3. Getting names right is important to me. One of my pet peeves is getting someone's name wrong. Maybe it's not a big issue to other people but calling someone the wrong name seems very insulting to me. If I'm not sure of someone's name, I don't guess. If you don't remember my name, I'd rather you asked.

4. I design signs at my job. We do vehicle graphics, banners, flat signs and carved, gold leafed signs. It's fun when I get to be creative and a sign comes out really well. That doesn't happen very much, a big part of the job requires 0% creativity, but hey, it pays the bills and it's way better than bagging groceries.

5. We're planning on moving this summer. Our house is under contract, but we're waiting for the closing. We can't wait to be out of here. It's been a loooooonnnnnngggggg time, we signed the contract last October. It'll be worth it, but it's certainly teaching us patience.

6. I was born on Flag Day. That's June 14th for those of you who don't know. I can think of three other people with the same birthday. Flag day babies rock.

7. I'm going to be a Daddy for the second time, here's all the excitement. It was a surprise! Not really cause the rhythm method≠birth control. To anyone out there who's using the rythmn method-you're on borrowed time! We're glad, we were planning on having another and this is a good time frame. Ava will be about 2 years and three months when baby #2 is born. My sister-in-law is also pregnant, also a surprise! Looks like it's going around. Bonus Fact: Baby number two will be the last!

Okay, now you know everything interesting there is about me, I've fulfilled my responsibility and I feel good. I hereby tag Chad and Ginny, together or separate, cause I'm sure they're looking for things to do.

Written elsewhere

Hey, seeing how little I post here and how fast posts disappear off the front page at Daddy Daze, here's a link to my latest post there. Might as well capitalize on it as much as I can, right?

It's a fascinating look at how Father's Day came to be celebrated and it explores the deep bond between a father and child. Actually that's a lie, it's pretty much a link to a funny video, but it's still worth a peek. Enjoy.

May Randomness

• The iTunes Store Debuts DRM-Free Music. What used to be 'Protected AAC Audio File' with the .m4p extension is now a 'Purchased AAC Audio File' and is now your garden variety .m4a. The iTunes Store may finally get some competition if the rest of the labels jump on the bandwagon. EMI (the one label doing the no-DRM thing on iTunes) has already announced a deal with Amazon. Another case of manifest destiny, no doubt.

• The other day a thought occured. What will George add/change/remove for the Blu-Ray Disc release. Can you say 'Jar-Jar shot first?'

Daddy Daze has been reviewed (they like us, they really like us!) at The Weblog Review. Congrats to Dave, the main Daddy. Here's a link to my posts, which you may have (most likely) missed. Stuff doesn't stay on the front page long.

More as I think of it.

Page 1869

So I should be reconciling the checkbook but who wants to do that? Instead I'm killing time browsing around and happened upon Engadget. It has a human readable archive URL so I thought I'd see how far back it went. Guess how many pages there are as I write this, go on, guess. Did you guess 1869? Hooray for you, you get 100 RGC points. Anyway, it stretches back to March 2, 2004 with a lovely post about some memory card format no one has ever heard of: T-Flash. Sounds like an old school rapper. In other gadgety news from March '04 we read about the still unrealased Nintendo DS, some Alcatel (?) cellphones and the Treo 610. I expected to see some glowing posts about that new rzer thingamabob from Motorola, but no luck. Here's what things looked like back then. When are we going to be seeing those cheap 3D scanners anyway?
